Plastic bag properties
- Bags must lie flat and contain as little air as possible. If a product comes glued in, the seal must not be positioned at the bottom (magazine baseline) or on the same side as the binding.
- Plastic bags containing liquid: all sealed edges must be completely flat and at least 8 mm wide. They must not bulge out over the bag.
- Plastic bags containing granules or powder: the top and right-hand sealed edges must be flat and at least 8 mm wide. The left-hand sealed edge (binding side) must be at least 20 mm wide and the lower sealed edge (magazine baseline) must be at least 12 mm wide. They must not bulge out over the bag. Bags containing granules or powder must be divided into 2 chambers.
Material
The bag material must generally be tailored to the contents and comply with specified load requirements. Samples must not have any hazardous content or impair the processing or dispatch of a printed magazine. The publishing house must be relieved of all liability in relation to third-party claims resulting from the provision of a product sample. The publishing house must furthermore be compensated for any damages it incurs due to non-observance of the technical requirements. In the event of any processing difficulties due to poor quality bag material, completion of the magazine print run will take priority over gluing in the bags.
Strain
Bags containing liquid must withstand the following weights:
Static pressure | 1,000 kg for 15 seconds or 600 kg for 8 hours |
Dynamic pressure | 600 kg for 1 hour |
Heat resistance | min. 200°C |
Quality standards
95 % of the magazines in the print run contain correctly glued-in tip-ons. A maximum of 5 % can lie outside standard tolerances or have the following defects:
- Positional deviations
- horizontal/vertical: max. +/- 8 mm
- axial: max. 5°
- Missing tip-ons
- Tip-ons glued in the wrong way round
Packaging of product samples for delivery
Bags that are delivered randomly mixed up or that stick to each other cannot be processed.
- Plastic bags containing liquid: all bags must be packaged lined up, facing the same direction and upright! The individual rows and layers (max. 3 layers) must be separated by cardboard. Packaged on a longitudinal side, standing up in boxes. Do not package standing on the seal.
- Plastic bags containing granules or powder: all bags packaged flat and lined up. To differentiate between the rows, the individual layers must be separated by solid cardboard and stabilised with diagonally positioned card (cross strips) at 15 cm intervals.
