  • Plastic bag properties:
    • Bags must lie flat and contain as little air as possible. If a product comes glued in, the seal must not be positioned at the bottom (magazine baseline) or on the same side as the binding.
    • Plastic bags containing liquid: all sealed edges must be completely flat and at least 8 mm wide. They must not bulge out over the bag.
    • Plastic bags containing granules or powder: the top and right-hand sealed edges must be flat and at least 8 mm wide. The left-hand sealed edge (binding side) must be at least 20 mm wide and the lower sealed edge (magazine baseline) must be at least 12 mm wide. They must not bulge out over the bag. Bags containing granules or powder must be divided into 2 chambers.
  • Material: the bag material must generally be tailored to the contents and comply with specified load requirements.

Samples must not have any hazardous content or impair the processing or dispatch of a printed magazine. The publishing house must be relieved of all liability in relation to third-party claims resulting from the provision of a product sample. The publishing house must furthermore be compensated for any damages it incurs due to non-observance of the technical requirements. In the event of any processing difficulties due to poor quality bag material, completion of the magazine print run will take priority over gluing in the bags.

Strain

Bags containing liquid must withstand the following weights:

  • Static pressure: 1,000 kg for 15 seconds or 600 kg for 8 hours
  • Dynamic pressure: 600 kg for 1 hour
  • Heat resistance: minimum 200°C
Quality standards

95% of the magazines in the print run contain correctly glued-in tip-ons. A maximum of 5% can lie outside standard tolerances or have the following defects:

  • Positional deviations: horizontal/vertical: maximum +/- 8 mm, axial: maximum 5°
  • Missing tip-ons
  • Tip-ons glued in the wrong way round
Packaging of product samples for delivery

Bags that are delivered randomly mixed up or that stick to each other cannot be processed.

  • Plastic bags containing liquid: all bags must be packaged lined up, facing the same direction and upright! The individual rows and layers (max. 3 layers) must be separated by cardboard. Packaged on a longitudinal side, standing up in boxes. Do not package standing on the seal.
  • Plastic bags containing granules or powder: all bags packaged flat and lined up. To differentiate between the rows, the individual layers must be separated by solid cardboard and stabilised with diagonally positioned card (cross strips) at 15 cm intervals.

  • Dummy version: the final acceptance (good to go) requires a binding sample and a precise positional diagram to be provided. A test run may also have to be performed. To this end, the client must provide 150 original samples free of charge.
  • Scheduling: only one product sample is possible per magazine and issue.

    • In the front part of the magazine
    • On the right-hand ad page
    • On the top or bottom half of the page (according to the tip-on diagram)
  • Carrier ad: minimum format 1/1 page
Packaging specifications
  • Quantities suitable for handling
  • A grip height of maximum 12 cm per layer
  • Not entwined or bound, cleanly palletised
  • Supplements must be delivered without bent corners, crease marks or displaced spines. Any defects can lead to reductions in performance and their related additional costs.
  • The manner in which the pallets are secured must preclude any deformation of the supplements and protect them against moisture.
Stacking
  • Stack loose, glued-in and bound-in supplements cover-side up
  • Stack inserts and tip-ons cover-side down
Pallet labelling

The pallets must be labelled with the following information by attaching a pallet label to at least two sides – pallet dimensions 800 x 1,200 mm:

  1. Supplement name, especially type description (code and similar)

Print material colours

To optimally reproduce advertisements, the printer must receive a binding Qualiproof in accordance with the ISO Coated standard by the specified deadline. The proof must have a Fogra media wedge on it. If no colour proof is available as a reference, your order will be printed in line with the PSO standard.

Data preparation
  • Data format: Delivery as a PDF file is considered standard and is preferable to delivery in other file formats
  • Documents: PDF/X-4. Other documents on request (for the settings, please see www.pdfx-ready.ch)
  • Image resolution: Bitmap: 845 dpi, greyscale and colour: 300 dpi. Format: PDF. No RGB, DCS or OPI images
  • Colour composition: All advertisements must be created using the Euroscale colours (cyan, magenta, yellow and black)
  • Panorama pages: In the case of 2/1 pages with overflowing text, always take the gutter allowance into account or consult Ringier Advertising

  • Magazine format: 210 x 282 mm
  • Bleed advertisements: +5 mm trim on all sides. Text and image elements that may not be trimmed must be 8 mm away from the edge of the magazine

Dynamic Pricing

All clients and agencies have the opportunity o benefit from Dynamic Pricing. Here, a discount is granted for each booking, which is based on the following five criteria: Seasonality, Sales Development, Placement, Timing and Flexibility. In addition to the dynamic discount, clients and agencies continue to receive a final discount, which is based on the gross annual turnover. For the calculation of this discount, a uniform print closing discount scale applies.
